In March 2026, a Quebec judge made history by temporarily prohibiting two men—Philippe Normand and his son, Dominik Seelos—from donating sperm because of worries about the abnormally high number of children they had fathered, which increased the possibility of unintentional consanguinity and psychological harm to the offspring.
While a larger lawsuit against the two men is pending, Justice Simon Chamberland of Quebec’s Superior Court issued an interlocutory injunction on March 18, 2026, preventing them from giving sperm in the province or contacting anyone to do so. The decision was made in response to a complaint submitted by a mother, who went by a pseudonym, claiming that the donors had misled her about their family relationship and the number of children they had fathered.
