Seasons on Earth are primarily caused by the tilt of the Earth's axis relative to its orbit around the sun. The Earth's axis is tilted at an angle of approximately 23.5 degrees relative to the plane of its orbit. As the Earth orbits the sun, different parts of the planet receive varying amounts of sunlight depending on the angle at which the sunlight strikes the surface.
During the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, which occurs around June 21st each year, the North Pole is tilted toward the sun, causing the sun's rays to hit the Northern Hemisphere more directly, resulting in longer days and more intense sunlight. Conversely, during the winter solstice, which occurs around December 21st each year, the North Pole is tilted away from the sun, resulting in shorter days and less intense sunlight.
The opposite is true for the Southern Hemisphere, where the seasons are opposite those of the Northern Hemisphere due to the opposite orientation of the Earth's axis. The tilt of the Earth's axis, combined with its orbit around the sun, creates the cyclical pattern of seasons that we experience on Earth.
