Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, will host the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification from August 17 to August 28, 2026. Representatives from UNCCD’s 197 member nations come together for this international summit to expedite coordinated action against desertification, one of the major environmental issues harming ecosystems and livelihoods globally.
Due to its extensive experience with desertification and land degradation, which affect a sizable percentage of its area, Mongolia was selected as the host nation. Mongolia’s contribution to promoting sustainable land management and rangeland restoration is highlighted by hosting COP17 in its capital city.
