Every year on January 4, the French inventor of the Braille writing system, Louis Braille, is honored with World Braille Day. Louis Braille, who was born in 1809, lost his sight as a kid. At the age of 15, he created the ground-breaking six-dot tactile technique, which allows blind and visually impaired people to read and write on their own.
For millions of people worldwide, Braille is an essential instrument for reading, education, work, and social engagement. This day serves to increase awareness of this fact. In order to provide equal possibilities for blind and partially sighted people in all facets of society, it also emphasizes the continuous need for accessible materials, assistive technologies, and inclusive legislation.
