On March 27, 2026, in New Delhi, the Rs 445 crore contract for the Tunguska Air Defence Missile System was signed with JSC Rosoboronexport, Russia. The agreement, which will provide the Indian Army with these state-of-the-art systems, was completed in front of Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The Tunguska is a tracked self-propelled air defense system of Soviet origin that offers strong defense against low-flying threats like aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles by combining surface-to-air missiles with twin 30 mm autocannons. The long-standing strategic defense alliance between Russia and India is strengthened by this acquisition, which also enhances India’s multilayered air defense capabilities.
