Every year, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) organizes Earth Hour. With participation from more than 190 nations and territories, it started as a lights-out event in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and has now expanded to become the greatest grassroots environmental movement in the world.

Every year on the final Saturday of March, businesses, towns, and individuals are encouraged to turn off non-essential lights for an hour in order to promote awareness of environmental protection and climate change. With the theme “Give an Hour for Earth,” the 2026 edition, which took place on March 28, commemorated the movement’s 20th anniversary and encouraged members to spend 60 minutes taking constructive environmental action.
